Frantz presents... TWITCHING LACERATION (in progress)
THE
CONCEPT
The concept of this recording is somewhat challenging to explain in
a concise way. The title "Twitching Laceration" refers to
a flesh wound that won't or can't heal because everytime a scab forms
and begins the process of growing new skin, the laceration twitches,
breaking the scab and reopening the wound. As you know, open wounds
are most subject to infection, sensitive, and often elicit disgust from
others. So in this way, it is a perfect analogy for any mental or physical
defect. In the album, there will be a nameless character who is afflicted
with this twitching laceration. He will also have generalized problems
with the involuntary twitching of his entire body. The involuntary spasms
are analogous to our own undesired impulses. Another factor is the self-image,
which has been considerably lowered due to the affliction. The character
will have trouble relating to beauty. He will be drawn to it, but always
feel like it is something unattainable. This relates to male and female
relations as well as the pursuit of perfection and happiness. It also
parallels some of the problems friends may have with relationships with
the afflicted. As those of you that know me well will already be aware
of, there is quite a bit of my own identity in this character. And as
you may know, I am a Christian. I believe God has created man for a
reason, and though life has enormous pain and ugliness in it, that there
is a higher purpose. This is where the real struggle of the concept
is. How do you deal with what seems like inescapable pain, while living
a life with meaning? How can any of us live a life with meaning? What
stops us from killing ourselves while we are feeling pain from persistent
problems that have no end in site? What do you do with a wound that
won't heal? If you pray, and your prayers are not answered in the way
that you want, does your faith suffer? How do you cope with the pain
that only God or death can take away? Ideally, anyone who has experienced
any serious trauma or suffers from any long term medical condition will
be able to relate to this. The style of the sound will match the concept,
and will be hard for many to swallow, so album will likely only appeal
to those who have already developed a taste for sounds outside of the
mass market. As much as I believe in the potential within each of us,
I am aware of our weaknesses. As fortunate as I am and have been in
my life, I am still aware of ways I could be better. I hope the words
I have written have been helpful in understanding the idea behind this
recording. |
